The Journey North Church Newsletter
August 24, 2022
In light of Lynfield’s resignation, there are a lot of questions as to what is happening and what is next. It is difficult to see Lynfield leave after serving the Journey North for 12 years. He has blessed TJN in many ways and will be missed. The Governing Team (GT) has been working hard to make this transition period as quick and easy as possible. Check out the next steps as we move forward in this journey.
GOVERNING TEAM ACTION
The GT has met with Todd Lyscio (Executive Pastor) concerning his duties during this time. Todd’s respect for what needs to be done and his willingness to help are admirable. He has agreed to preach as much as needed and to take care of the daily office operations. We have also heard from other staff that they will do whatever they can to help through this process. That is very much appreciated. A GT representative met recently with the Placement Team from Converge. The GT rep requested that they help us find an Intentional Interim Pastor ASAP. They agreed they would and are already working on it. They will go through their database and select one person that they think would be best for our situation. We then have the opportunity to interview them and, in turn, them us. If we all agree, this process could take 4-6 weeks. If not, we will get another name and start that process over again.
DUTIES OF THE INTENTIONAL INTERIM PASTOR
- GT Development
- Staff Development
- Bylaw Revisions
- Overview of financial procedures
- Help the church heal
- Reconciliation counseling with those that have been hurt or forgotten in the process.
- They will not be the next Pastor. A true interim knows going in that this is for a season, and they need to do a lot of work so they can be relieved of this responsibility.
- It is likely this will be a full-time position
As this is ongoing, the process of finding a new Lead Pastor starts.
The GT has already been going through a membership list and talking about recommendations for the Calling Committee. That team will be formed soon, and they will start the formal search for the new Lead Pastor.
We were told that there are a number of possible candidates available or will be available in the coming months. Hopefully this process will not take long, but there is a time of healing that is needed.
The calling team would ultimately select a candidate and bring its recommendation to the GT for approval. In consultation with the GT, they would formulate the call. Together, with the GT, recommend the acceptable candidate to the church for approval at a business meeting.
Of utmost importance, at this time, is unity between all of us. This is the time to fight for our church, each other, and the faith that we share. Satan wins when we fight amongst ourselves. When that happens the reputation of God and TJN are harmed in the community and that serves no one any good. We need healing, reconciliation, unity and strong people to come together and not run from this.
